Prior to 2008, the Sagan Summer Workshops were called the Michelson Summer Schools . They were aimed at advancing the scientific and technical understanding of the objectives of the Navigator Program. No workshop was held in 2008, and workshops from 1999 to 2002 were hosted by institutions other than the Michelson Science Center/NExScI.

The Sagan Fellows Symposia are held every two to three years and are for current and past Sagan/Michelson graduate student and postdoctoral fellows to present current or past research results. These symposia highlight the cutting-edge efforts of the fellows, as well as discussion of career paths and networking. All interested parties are welcome to attend.
